My Story
Having suffered a serious accident which turns your world upside down, where do you turn? I was lucky, I had insurance cover which put in place an occupational therapist and legal support. Without our fairy godmother occupational therapist, I don't know how we would have managed, particularly as I was unable to return to my own home after hospital, and fell between the gaps in social service support as I was going to live out of county.
This is where Day One Trauma Support comes in, by providing support for people and their families in the early stages following trauma, and helping them to come to terms with what has happened.
Unfortunately, such support is not provided by the NHS or social services, and currently is not country wide. Day One started in Leeds, and is slowly reaching out to other trauma centres throughout the UK. To enable it to expand its services it is reliant on the goodwill of donations.
Stupidly, I signed up to Ride London 100 a couple of months ago. It seemed like a good idea at the time! However, I hadn't bargained on the loneliness of the long distance training. Clocking up the miles when it's windy and damp, has been a chore. Now that it's just a few weeks away, the distance looks manageable, but I am not convinced about the 8 hour cut off. That is very daunting. 😱
Because of the challenge the 100 mile Ride is proving to be, I've decided to fundraise for Day One as part of my efforts.
I know the cost of living is particularly challenging at present, but any donations you can make, no matter how small, will be particularly welcome.
