My Story
On the 28th May myself and Tristan will be taking part jn the ride 100, a 100 mile cycle ride through London and Essex to raise money for Dementia.
As most of you know my beautiful mum has been suffering from Alzheimer's and Dementia for a number of years. In 2020 she suffered a stroke during lockdown and due to the covid restrictions we were not allowed to see her for over 16 weeks.
With Dementia and Alzheimer's you have to have a constant reminder of people around you, this was taken away from my mum and we in turn lost valuable and precious time.
My mum now lives in a care home and is not aware of many things or people. She smiles when she sees my sisters children or you show her videos or pictures on the phone and you get to see the smile that we have missed for so long.
My mum's condition has deteriorated drastically over the last few weeks and we are unsure of how long we have left with her.
This disease is so cruel to have to watch someone go through, it breaks your heart when you see the person you love more than anything disappear in front of you. It affects everyone around them and is breaking my dad more than I could ever have imagined, the love my dad has for my mum is so rare and definitely one of a kind.
One thing Dementia and Alzheimer's will never take away are the memories I have with my mum, my best friend.
With your support Dementia UK can help educate people to recognise the early signs and hopefully detect it asap so that they can get the right help in the early stages. Dementia UK does an amazing job to not only support the patients with Dementia but also the families that also end up living with Dementia. Please support me in my fund raising appeal to help those living with Dementia and hopefully one day be able to put a stop to such a cruel disease. Thank you x
